I found a pic on Pinterest of some cat beds that were essentially just fleecy bags and thought my 'little darlings' would love them, they can curl up and let the sides drop around them, cosy! In fact I think I might want one myself.
I've put together some instructions below on how I created mine, they are really simple to put together (and great for practising sewing curves!). You could change the size to suit any sized pet.
Brilliantly, 'Meow' by Riley Blake has recently come in and I love it, just purrrfect for this little job. I used plain antipill fleece for the lining, 80/20 4oz Wadding and a scrap plain piece for the base.
So the only 'in use' pic I have is Boo more kind of 'on it' than 'in it', but it had the desired affect. She is..... erm, how do I put it delicately.... on the ample side of normal but she fits!
Cosy Cat Bag Beds
Make yourself a circular paper template for a 15 ¾” diameter circle
Cutting
From Wadding (I used a 4oz 80/20)
- 17” x 50 ¼” for the sides
- 15 ¾” Circle
From Fleece (I used a plain antipill)
- 17” x 50 ¼” for the sides
- 15 ¾” Circle
From Outside Pattern (I used a plain piece for the circular bottom rather than waste the pattern where it wouldn’t be seen)
- 17” x 50 ¼” for the sides
- 15 ¾” Circle
Sewing
Place the fleece lining for the sides right sides together and place the wadding for the sides over the top
Make sure you leave a gap for turning (3 to 4"), pin and sew the ends together to make a tube and sew
Pin and sew the fleece and wadding circles on the bottom (still right sides together)
Create the outer tube as you have the inner lining
Turn the outer, patterned fabric the right way round, keep the lining as it is (as it would be on the finished thing)
Put the outer pattern tube into the lining tube. The right sides of the fabrics should be against one another
Pin and sew around the top of the joined tubes
Turn the project through the hole you left in the lining (you did leave one didn't you?!)
Sew closed your lining hole
Push the lining pieces into the outer fabric and there you go!
